James W. Peake is a paper folding expert based in Oberlin, OH, who specializes in folding and teaching origami, as well as curating origami exhibitions. After graduating from Oberlin College in 2006, James spent 11 years as the Education Director with the Firelands Association for the Visual Arts, where he started the ongoing “FAVA Folding Festival”. An active member of the international origami community, James has organized and hosted over a dozen origami gallery exhibitions that feature master paper folders from around the globe. James has led numerous educational origami programs and events for students young and old with organizations including but not limited to the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Sandusky Cultural Center, the Cleveland International Film Festival, and the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. He has worked with several hundred students in several venues over the past 15 years. In 2017, James opened his very own Foldspace Origami Studio in Oberlin, which doubles as an art studio and lesson space for students. He recently became Vice President the online store, The Americas Origami Shop, which supplies books and paper to customers across North and South America.
James is currently on the roster of teaching artist for the Center for Arts Inspired Learning and for Art House, both based in Cleveland, OH. He also teaches for organizations including (but not limited to): the Morgan Paper Conservatory, The Child Garden, the Amherst Public Library, and the Oberlin City Recreation After School Program.
Sarah G. Williams Principal Designer
Sarah is an interaction designer and user experience architect who loves to get involved in all parts of the process, from forming concepts to detailed design deliverables. Sarah has extensive experience in different modalities and media, from hardware, software, and service design, as well as print and visual design. She graduated from the University of Washington in 2005 with BFA in Design, and has worked for Microsoft and Google over the last 16 years. Sarah is an inventor on 5 patents, and an author on 3 publications in the area of Human Computer Interaction. See her full resume
In 2019 her lifelong passion for origami brought her to the PCOC where she met and befriended James. Soon after, Sarah began to work with James producing and creating content for Foldspace Origami Studio. In 2020, they produced over 13 origami tutorial videos and hosted a 3 day online origami convention attended by over 500 people. From the convention, they published a model diagram book associated with the event.
Sarah is currently working with James to create and deliver programming for Foldspace Origami Studio.
